- cabarets - Use for cafÈlike facilities often with a dance floor or small stage and featuring entertainment generally of an improvisational, satirical, or topical nature.
- genre - Use for pictorial representations, which may be in various media, that represent scenes or events from everyday life; usually used with another term such as "paintings" or "prints." [April 1991 descriptor moved.]
- mothers
- peasants - Use for free people who support themselves by tilling the soil, either as small landholders or hired laborers. For the social class comprised of these people, use "peasantry." For those in a condition of servitude under feudalism, owing services to a lord and commonly attached to the lord's land, use "serfs." [December 1992 descriptor added.]
- taverns - Primarily 17th- to early 19th-century English and American places of eating, drinking, and public accommodations, which often became local centers of social gatherings; distinguished from "inns" which emphasize their overnight accommodations and also provide food and drinking facilities; for establishments that emphasize drinking, especially liquors, use "pubs" or "saloons." [April 1993 related terms added.]
